ABOUT ME
Nkenge Wheatland is currently a Content Developer at zyBooks.
Nkenge received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where she worked with Dr. Victor Zordan in the Riverside Graphics Lab. She was also a visiting student at Clemson University, where she worked with Dr. Sophie Jörg. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and UCR, respectively. Her dissertation topic was gesture synthesis for communicative characters with an emphasis on American Sign Language synthesis.
She has been the recipient of the UMBC Meyerhoff Scholarship, the AGEP Summer Research Fellowship, the GEM Ph.D. Engineering Fellowship, and numerous UCR travel grants. She has also held both Associate-In Professor and Teaching Assistant positions for multiple courses at UCR. In 2012 and 2013, she interned at the Intel Corporation in Folsom, CA.
In addition to technology, she is a professional theatre electrician and lighting designer. She has held an internship in Electrics at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and has worked in electrics and lighting at Center Stage, Toby's Dinner Theatre, and Roland Park Country School, all located in her home state of Maryland.
